IIE invites universities and colleges around the world to join the Scholar Rescue Fund in supporting scholars whose lives and livelihoods are threatened by violence, persecution and harassment in their home country.  Since 2002, the Fund has awarded more than US$1 million to help threatened scholars from 34 countries visit universities and colleges in 16 host countries. How to be a Host Campus New initiative:  Seeking partners for regional conferences on academic freedom, 2006-08 The Scholar Rescue Fund is also looking for universities and academic associations interested in partnering with the Fund in organizing conferences on academic freedom in each geographic region.  The Fund hopes to organize up to five conferences in various European countries throughout 2006-08. The Fund awards fellowships to host universities and colleges in any safe country welcoming threatened scholars as temporary visitors on their campuses.  The Fund provides fellowships of up to $20,000 to the institution for support of a specific candidate.  The host campus provides a safe environment in which to live and work, as well as professional, personal, and often additional financial support.  In most cases this support will depend on available funds, cost of living, duration of the visit, and the host institution's resources.  Universities and colleges in any country may receive grants supporting scholars from any discipline, and are invited to identify their own candidates or to review candidates identified by the Fund.
