The International Handbook of Universities was first published in 1959 in response to the growing demand for authoritative information about universities. It has grown considerably over the years in both the quantity and quality of entries. All information contained in the Handbook is validated at the national and institutional levels.
The handbook is published every two years. The current edition (19th edition) - published in 2007 - provides detailed data on over 9200 university institutions worldwide, their structure, courses of study, degrees and diplomas, etc. The next edition will be published in 2008.
A copy of the Handbook is sent for free to all IAU members. Others can order the publication at Palgrave Macmillan.
