Social Mobility and Child Poverty Commission. Higher Education: the Fair Access Challenge. 2013. Pages: 26.
This policy paper, written by the Social Mobility and Child Poverty Commission, builds on last year’s ‘University Challenge: How Higher Education Can Advance Social Mobility’ report. This shorter report summarizes how the British higher education sector has responded to the recommendations made in the former report, mostly on offering fairer and wider access and participation to education. The paper indicates a decline in the proportion of state-educated pupils attending Russell Group universities over the last decade and provides evidence that elite institutions have become less socially representative.
