In January, 25 German higher education institutions (HEI) were selected for the second round of the German national support programme for the EU initiative "European Universities".
With the national accompanying programme "European University Networks (EUN) - national initiative", the German Federal Government supports higher education institutions in establishing Europe-wide higher education networks. To this end, all institutions accepted for this programme will receive around 28 million EUR in total from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research until 2023 - additionally to the funds already provided by the EU. In addition to the 20 German higher education institutions funded at EU level, the DAAD supports a further five networks with German participation whose applications were narrowly rejected in the EU programme but nevertheless found worthy of funding. The programme is implemented by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). A total of 35 German universities are now involved in 32 of the 41 Europe-wide alliances.
