Family Background and access to ‘high status’ universities

The Sutton Trust. Family Background and access to ‘high status’ universities. 2013. Pages: 19.

Rather a collection and overview of graphs and figures than a full-fledged report, this ‘study’ examines the link between socioeconomic level and chances of entering a so called ‘high status’ university. The report finds that prospective higher education students from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds tend to be underrepresented in ‘high status’ universities but rather choose less selective institutions despite equally good academic ability as in comparison to peers with a better socioeconomic background. Worth a look for quickly accessible data on this issue.
