Exchange, employment and added value: Research report of the ESNSurvey 2011

Alfranseder, E., Escrivá, J., Fellinger, J., Haley, A., Nigmonov, A., & Taivere, M. Exchange, employment and added value: Research report of the ESNSurvey 2011. Erasmus Student Network (ESN) AISBL, Brussels, 2012. Pages: 64.

This year’s ESNSurvey focuses on the relationship between student mobility and employability. Twenty-one thousand respondents, current or former higher education students, took part in this survey, which assessed satisfaction with experiences abroad, perceptions about the labour market and mobility. Globally, respondents were satisfied with their study/internship experience abroad and 97% considered an international study experience to be advantageous in the labour market. Personal development, better salary and working conditions and previous experience in the host country were amongst the factors driving an increased motivation to work abroad. On the other hand, owing real estate, financial commitments and personal ties in the home country were the most cited obstacles for labour mobility. This report also provides recommendations for governments, EU decision makers, and higher education institutions.
