Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities in charge of the European Union’s high-quality statistical information has gathered and analysed figures from the national
statistical offices across Europe, focusing on science, technology, innovation and regions. They have recently release a new pocketbook on innovation in Europe.
This publication
presents statistical information on the evolution and composition of science and technology (S&T) in Europe and its position with regard to competitors. The pocketbook is divided into eight chapters, including: Key R&D input and output indicators (R&D expenditure, R&D personnel and government budget appropriations or outlays on R&D (GBAORD)); patents; high technology; human resources in S&T (HRST); statistics on innovation. Another chapter gives some background data on population, employment and gross domestic product (GDP).
