European Education and Innovation Summit

The Education and Innovation Summit took place on 23 July in a hybrid format, at the initiative of the European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Mariya Gabriel. It brought together key actors in European education and innovation, notably from innovative higher education institutions (HEIs), European Universities alliances, start-ups, entrepreneurs and companies, as well as students and school education representatives. The event was an opportunity to share knowledge and inspiring experiences on innovative education practices and on building bridges between the education communities and their surrounding innovation ecosystems. The priorities included:

  • the role of HEIs as drivers of innovation;
  • the importance of creativity, vocations, and entrepreneurship competences at all education levels; and
  • the enhancement of innovation in higher education teaching and learning.

The event included sessions on “Inspiring innovation culture and developing future-proof skills,” “Responding to innovation challenges,” “STEAM skills for an innovative Europe” and the European Education Technology (EdTech) sector.

Commissioner Gabriel highlighted the potential of making “Europe a global powerhouse for deep tech innovation, based on the foundation of a strong talent pool”.
