The report Policies to promote social and civic competences – from the Paris Declaration to global citizenship education was produced by the ET 2020 Working Group on ‘Promoting citizenship and the common values of freedom, tolerance and non-discrimination through education’. The report reflects the results and main messages of the group’s Peer Learning Activity (PLA) held in Vienna in October 2016, with the participation of 13 member states.

The key messages in this report focus on four areas: learning about citizenship based on human rights, how to teach by example in a democratic school culture, how to support teachers and school leaders to take on this challenging task, and how to involve the local community outside school.
