On 18 May the European Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Youth, Jan Figel signed two joint declarations with his ministerial counterparts in the fields of education and culture. The main purpose of the declarations is to promote further policy cooperation between the European Commission and the Government of Brazil in the areas of education and culture, building on already existing exchange of experiences, peer-learning and best practices, such as those already established in the context of the Erasmus Mundus Programme.
The current cooperation initiatives are a follow-up to the policy dialogue promoted through the EU-Brazil Joint Action Plan adopted in December 2008, at the second EU-Brazil Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
