ERC CALLS 2019 OPEN

  • Closing soon - ERC SYNERGY GRANT (ERC-2019-SyG)

ERC Synergy Grants are intended to foster research at the intellectual frontiers by enabling a small group of two to four Principal Investigators, referred to as a 'Synergy Grant Group', and their teams, to bring together complementary skills, knowledge, and resources in new ways to jointly address ambitious research problems.

The aim is to promote substantial advances at the frontiers of knowledge, to cross-fertilise scientific fields, and to encourage new productive lines of enquiry and new methods and techniques, including unconventional approaches and investigations at the interface between established disciplines. This should enable transformative research not only at the forefront of European science but also to become a benchmark on a global scale.

Budget: up to a maximum of EUR 10 million for a period of 6 years
Deadline: 8 November 2018 (17:00:00 Brussels time)

  • ERC PROOF OF CONCEPT GRANT (ERC-2019-POC)
The ERC Proof of Concept Grants aim to maximise the value of the excellent research that the ERC funds, by funding further work (i.e. activities which were not scheduled to be funded by the original ERC Frontier Research Grant) to verify the innovation potential of ideas arising from ERC funded projects. Proofs of Concept Grants are therefore on offer only to Principal Investigators whose proposals draw substantially on their ERC funded research.

The financial contribution will be awarded as a lump sum of EUR 150 000 for a period of 18 months. The ERC expects that normally proof of concept projects should be completed within 12 months. However, to allow for those projects that require more preparation time, projects will be signed for 18 months. Given this initial flexibility, extensions of the duration of proof of concept projects may be granted only exceptionally.

Deadlines:
- 22 January 2019 (17:00:00 Brussels time)
- 25 April 2019 (17:00:00 Brussels time)
- 19 September 2019 (17:00:00 Brussels time)

Budget: EUR 25 million

  • ERC CONSOLIDATOR GRANT (ERC-2019-COG)

ERC Consolidator Grants are designed to support excellent Principal Investigators at the career stage at which they may still be consolidating their own independent research team or programme. Applicant Principal Investigators must demonstrate the ground-breaking nature, ambition and feasibility of their scientific proposal.

Consolidator Grants may be awarded up to a maximum of EUR 2 million for a period of 5 years. The Principal Investigator shall have been awarded their first PhD over 7 and up to 12 years prior to 1 January 2019. A competitive Consolidator Grant Principal Investigator must have already shown research independence and evidence of maturity, for example by having produced several important publications as main author or without the participation of their PhD supervisor. Applicant Principal Investigators should also be able to demonstrate a promising track record of early achievements appropriate to their research field and career stage, including significant publications (as main author) in major international peer-reviewed multidisciplinary scientific journals, or in the leading international peer-reviewed journals of their respective field. They may also demonstrate a record of invited presentations in well-established international conferences, granted patents, awards, prizes, etc.

Budget: EUR 602 million

Deadline: 7 February 2019 (17:00:00 Brussels time)
