On Wednesday 14 December 2020, the final event to celebrate the Erasmus+ 35^th anniversary took place in Brussels, involving the founders of the programme, beneficiaries, and members of staff working at the national or European level on Erasmus+.

With a full day of activities, the celebration offered participants the opportunity to take part in different sessions and workshops dedicated to Erasmus+ priorities, good practices & experiences, and the history of the programme among other topics.

The 35th anniversary event was also the occasion to present the 2021 Erasmus+ annual report, providing insights into the impact of the actions of the programme. The report showcases that in 2021 alone, despite a challenging global context, the Erasmus+ programme supported close to 19,000 projects, with the participation of over 70,000 organisations from the programme countries, providing opportunities to more than 648,000 learners and staff, including at least 65,000 persons with fewer opportunities. In the higher education context, 3,998 projects were funded, with 8,110 beneficiary organisations and more than 280,500 participants.

The report clearly demonstrates the programme’s appeal to an ever-growing number of participants as well as its strong potential in terms of building a more participative and engaged Europe, with a greener, more digital, and more inclusive outlook.

Since its creation in 1987, Erasmus+ has provided opportunities to study, train, work and volunteer abroad to nearly 13 million people. In the years to come, Erasmus+ will continue to allow more people to learn and participate in transnational projects.
