The new study by David Graddol, which follows up on his 1997 report "The Future of English", concludes that new international economic and cultural changes may undermine the position of English as the world's top language of international communication. Multilingual youngsters from other countries outside the UK are proving to be more successful than the monolingual British youth when it comes to recruitment by international companies and organisations. This and other factors may cause a reversal of the present situation. Consequently, the UK may face new pressures.
