The European Investment Bank (EIB) announced that higher education institutions and research institutes will be eligible for additional funding through the establishment of a EUR 385 million loan scheme. The loan will be disbursed to the Brandenburg’s investment bank (Investitionsbank des Landes Brandenburg – ILB) which in turn will function as intermediary institution for the loan distribution.

Brandenburg is known for its high concentration of research activities due to a high number of research foundations settled around Berlin and in the region itself. In addition, Brandenburg is home to three universities and five university colleges of applied sciences (Fachhochschulen). The EIB loan will allow the Federal State of Brandenburg to finance research and development infrastructure projects as well as research equipment and the modernisation of university facilities.
