Education collapses in Zimbabwe

The Boston Globe reports a complete collapse of education in Zimbabwe. The catastrophic economic development has led to their one-time excellent education system going to pieces. There are now 150,000 teacher vacancies in the country. Teachers can no longer afford to teach: "You'd come to school and someone's not there, and next thing you hear, he's gone," said Knox Sonopai, 43, a history teacher at Mufakose 3.

The government is now sending out graduates with no experience to fill posts. Says Boston Globe: “The higher education system is equally troubled, starving Zimbabwe's hospitals of doctors and the mining sector of engineers.”

There can be little doubt that this will affect the education system in Zimbabwe also in the long run
