Good news for international students, wishing to study abroad in Finland: the Finnish government has just passed a new law on Friday, 15 April 2022, thus granting international students and their family members residence permits for the entire duration of their studies, with the view to ease entry and retention of foreign students in the country.
Previously complicated procedures of extending residence permits every year or two are no longer to be. Through these new residence permit practices, the country aims to make it easier for foreign students and researchers to stay in the country, which signals Finland’s readiness to compete with other countries in the global higher education race.
The amended law, which is set to lead to higher numbers of global talent in Finland, will also make it easier to apply for work after graduation, through extending non-EU students and researchers job seeker's permit to two years.
