Dutch tertiary education under the microscope

The current report on the Netherlands is part of the OECD Thematic Review of Tertiary Education – a project conducted in 24 nations between 2004 and 2008. The main objective of this initiative is to support these countries - by helping them identify and exploit the potential of tertiary education - to achieve their economic and social goals.

For the Netherlands, as one of 14 countries which opted to host a country review, a team of external reviewers worked out an in-depth analysis of the Dutch tertiary education policies. The present assessment contains:

  • an overview of the national education system;
  • a summary of recent trends and developments;
  • an analysis of the strengths and challenges in the tertiary education system; and
  • recommendations for future policy development.
