DAAD strengthens academic cooperation with the Middle East and North Africa

With the new "Ta'ziz Partnership" programme, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is promoting academic cooperation between German universities and their partners from the MENA region. 47 projects selected for 2023 will receive around EUR 4 million. A total of around EUR 15 million will be allocated from the Federal Foreign Office funds until 2025. By involving non-university partners, the programme aims to strengthen the transfer of knowledge between science and society and improve the social participation of women and young adults.

The programme comprises three programme lines with partners in Tunisia, Sudan, Lebanon, Iraq as well as Egypt, Algeria, Yemen, Jordan, Libya and Morocco:

  1. Establishing and expanding cooperation and knowledge exchange;
  2. Partnerships that contributes to structural changes in the science systems of the partner countries;
  3. Ta'ziz networks for the expansion of science communication and knowledge transfer.
