On occasion of the publication of the latest Academic Freedom Index (AFi), the DAAD calls on politics, science and society to stand up for more academic freedom in Germany and worldwide. The index of the Berlin think tank "The Global Public Policy Institute" (GPPi) shows that framework conditions for academic freedom differ widely in countries around the world. This has to be taken into account in setting-up international exchange, as well as in the design of German foreign science policy. For DAAD, free academic exchange and academic freedom are central for the search for knowledge, for the realisation of cross-border research cooperation, the further development of higher education and scientific progress.
