Germany and the DAAD are upscaling their efforts to support young Syrian refugees wishing to pursue higher education studies in the country. Ministries of Science in two states, North Rhine-Westphalia and Baden- Württemberg, have allocated funds towards a scholarship programme for refugees from Syria to be administered by the DAAD.
In addition to carrying out these two state-funded programmes in Germany, the DAAD is providing Master’s scholarships to support the advancement of young Jordanian and Syrian scholars from communities in Jordan which are characterised by a strong influx of Syrian refugees. The project “New Perspectives for Young Syrians and Jordanians through Academic Education and Training” targets highly qualified Jordanian and Syrian academics who intend to contribute towards the cohesion of the Jordanian society. The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented together with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
