The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) increases its presence in the Middle East: the new DAAD regional office in Jordan’s capital city Amman was officially inaugurated in June.

Over the past few years, the role of the Middle East as a region of origin of international students in Germany has increased significantly. At the same time, various countries in the region have emerged as education hubs and cooperation partners for German higher education institutions. The regional office in Amman also assumes responsibility for Iraq, Lebanon, and the United Arab Emirates. The office in Amman is part of DAAD’s worldwide network of 18 branch offices and its presence in over 80 countries.

Furthermore, the DAAD expands its range of funding opportunities related to sustainability. A new programme for international higher education partnerships along the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) has been launched with funding from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. Around 20 million euros are available for these 'SDG Partnerships' until 2027.
