As of September 1, 34 higher education institutes in North-Rhine Westphalia (NRW) can apply for funding within the programme “NRWege ins Studium”. This integration model for refugees is subsidized by the federal state with EUR 30 million a year and has been designed together with the DAAD, which implements the application procedure. The projects will start in January 2017 and aim at providing the institutes with additional funding for advice and assistance as well as preparatory and study-related measures, e.g. language courses and specialized training. By means of this, refugees who already hold a university entrance qualification can be more quickly and easily integrated into higher education in NRW.
