DAAD: digital teaching in the wake of the corona pandemic

Due to the Corona Virus university teachers all over the world were faced with the challenge of converting their face-to-face courses to virtual formats within a very short time. In order to learn more about the situation of teachers, the DAAD has developed a questionnaire that addresses the corona-induced conversion to digital teaching in international cooperation. A total of 398 lecturers from 39 DAAD-funded programmes took part in the survey. Despite all the challenges for higher education institutions and teaching staff, the abrupt changeover from face-to-face teaching to virtual distance learning in spring/summer 2020 has worked well in many cases. As a promoter of academic exchange, the DAAD continues to consider cross-border physical mobility indispensable. At the same time, international university cooperation and transnational exchange are increasingly supported by digital tools, as the benefits (e.g. reduction of greenhouse gases through savings on air travel, the development of digital skills of teachers and students, the flexibilisation of study programmes) are obvious.
