This report examines the development of doctoral education in three world regions – Southern Africa, East Asia and Latin America – and how it relates to developments in Europe. The aim of this project was to support collaboration around the globe in order to strengthen the global research community. The results presented in this report point to the emergence of common areas across all the regions under study, namely the discourse on the importance of doctoral education, the increased demand for staff with a doctoral degree both at universities and outside of academia, and the increased perceived importance of strategic collaboration between the different regions. The report also provides detailed information about the development of doctoral education in East Asia, Southern Africa, Latin America and Europe.
