CIMO Director wins the Grawemeyer award in education

ACA is proud to announce that Pasi Sahlberg, the Director of ACA’s Finnish member organisation – the Center for International Mobility and Cooperation (CIMO) – has recently been awarded the 2013 University of Louisville Grawemeyer Prize in Education. The award was granted for Mr Sahlberg’s 2011 book – Finnish Lessons: What Can the World Learn from Educational Change in Finland? – that looks into the reasons behind the success of the Finnish school system. The ACA Secretariat would like to congratulate Mr Sahlberg for this remarkable achievement.

Pasi Sahlberg became the Director of CIMO in 2009, having previously worked for the World Bank in Washington D.C., and for the European Commission’s European Training Foundation (ETF) in Turin, Italy. As for his national career, he earlier worked as a teacher, teacher trainer and adviser to the Finnish Board of Education. Currently, Mr Sahlberg is also adjunct professor at the Universities of Helsinki and of Oulu.

The University of Louisville grants annual Grawemeyer awards in the fields of music composition, world order, and psychology and education, with each prize being worth USD 100 000 (approx. EUR 76 000).
