Locke, W., Cummings, W. K. & Fisher D. (Eds.). Changing Governance and Management in Higher Education: The Perspectives on the Academy. The Changing Academy – The Changing Academic Profession in International Comparative Perspective, Vol. 2. Springer, New York, 2011. ISBN: ISBN 978-94-007-1139-6. Pages: 245.

In this second volume of The Changing Academic Profession in International Comparative Perspective series, an international study based on 18 country-wide surveys of academics is used to identify and analyse key trends and changes in university governance and management both at the national and international level. The publication goes on to highlight the key areas – focusing on achievements and challenges – where change in institutional governance and management has been significant. Moreover, it offers a series of proposals on the current and future landscape of higher education governance and management.

The book is divided into two parts: emergent higher education systems and mature higher education systems. In addition, it centres on national case studies from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Norway, South Africa, South Korea, the UK and the US.
