Celebrating a century of academic exchange

In 2025, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) commemorates its 100th anniversary, celebrating a legacy of supporting around three million students and scholars worldwide since its inception in 1925. As an organisation for academic exchange, the DAAD is using its anniversary year to highlight the importance of international scientific cooperation in times of geopolitical crises and upheaval.

The highlight of the celebrations will be a ceremony on May 6 at the Humboldt Forum in Berlin. Additionally, the Federal Ministry of Finance will issue a special postage stamp to mark this milestone.

Reflecting on its journey, DAAD President Prof. Dr. Joybrato Mukherjee stated, "For 100 years, the DAAD has been promoting the international exchange of students, teachers, and researchers—a task that is more important today than ever before." He further emphasised that in a world marked by conflicts and international tensions, DAAD creates space for dialogue and academic cooperation.
