CARe kick-off and future activities

As announced last December (see ACA Newsletter – Education Europe, December 2018), ACA is coordinating another project under Horizon2020, with DAAD and EDUFI as partners. The CARe (Career Advancement of Refugee Researchers in Europe) project officially kicked off on 26 and 27 February 2019, when the consortium gathered for a meeting in Brussels.

Supported by the Advisory Board, which includes experts from ACA’s member SAIA (Slovakia) and Diku/Norcore (Norway) as well as from Alexander von Humboldt Foundation - the German Section of the Scholars at Risk Network (SAR) – the partners discussed and agreed on the project roadmap until October 2020.

The aim of CARe is to support the integration of researchers with refugee background into the European research labour market, through needs-based guidance and coordinated dissemination of project results. The 10 target countries are: Austria, Belgium/Flanders, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and the Netherlands.

Among the key activities:

  • map relevant Research and Development (R&D) stakeholders in the target countries and at EU level;
  • organise 10 Focus Groups (FGs) – one per country - with refugee researchers;
  • map the research labour market requirements through an employer survey;
  • develop information templates informed by the needs of refugee researchers in their job search process and the research labour market conditions;
  • create country guides with country-specific information on the R&D labour market and disseminate via the EURAXESS portal;
  • deliver EU-level and country webinars for further guidance of researchers with a refugee background.

The project will run until October 2020.
