The main objective of the study to be undertaken will be to critically assess the comparability of existing national tests of pupils' language competences in Europe in languages that are not the main language of instruction. Language tests to be analysed are generally organised at the national or regional level, implemented in secondary schools and funded by national or regional budgets for education and training. The collected data and critical assessment of the comparability of national tests will help policy makers to take decisions on how to promote multilingualism and monitor language learning according to comparable indicators.
