Beyond More of the Same: The Top Four Emerging Markets for International Student Recruitment

Choudaha, R., & Kono, Y. Beyond More of the Same: The Top Four Emerging Markets for International Student Recruitment. World Education Services (WES), New York, 2012. Pages: 27.

This study sought to identify key emerging markets from which higher education institutions in the United States (US) can recruit international students, in order to build a more diversified student body. Currently, about 50% of the international students in the US are from China, India or South Korea. The research presented in this report indicates four emerging markets as sources for international students: Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Vietnam and Turkey. The report concludes that US higher education institutions should strive to build a more diversified portfolio of source countries of international students, and that a diversified portfolio of recruitment practices can help reduce the inherent risks in international student recruitment.
