The international conference “Diversity and Mobility: Erasmus+ in Higher Education Strategies – Data, Practice and Perspectives”, held at FH JOANNEUM University of Applied Sciences in Graz, focused on making Erasmus+ mobility more accessible, diverse and inclusive. The two-day Training and Cooperation Activity brought together representatives of higher education institutions, ministries, national agencies, student organisations and other stakeholders from Austria and Croatia. The event provided a platform for exchanging experiences, examining barriers to international mobility and exploring practical approaches to widening participation.
The programme combined research-based insights, policy perspectives and hands-on activities. Kathrin Hiller, CEO of KPTN Marketing, addressed effective communication strategies for reaching diverse target groups, while Martin Gradl from Austria’s Agency for Education and Internationalisation (OeAD) discussed current Erasmus+ inclusion priorities and the outlook for the 2028–2034 programme period. A particular focus was placed on the social dimension of mobility. Martin Unger from the Institute for Advanced Studies in Vienna presented EUROSTUDENT data on participation patterns and barriers, offering perspectives from Austria, Croatia and the wider European context. Margit Dirnberger from OeAD highlighted existing Erasmus+ support mechanisms and funding opportunities for inclusion.
A panel discussion entitled “Inclusive Mobility in Practice: What Works, What Needs to Change?” brought together institutional, policy and student perspectives to explore challenges and opportunities for more equitable mobility.
Beyond presentations and discussions, participants engaged in networking exercises, practical lightning talks and a collaborative workshop to develop targeted mini-communication campaigns.
Moderated by ACA’s Martin Bogdan, the conference highlighted the importance of combining evidence, institutional commitment, student perspectives and effective communication to make international learning opportunities accessible to a broader range of students.
