From 1 July, the cost of applying for an international student visa to study in Australia will increase from AUD 710 to AUD 1,600. This substantial price rise represents another significant challenge for a sector already in crisis, potentially deterring prospective students who might seek alternative destinations with more affordable visa options.
The increase makes Australia the most expensive country for student visa applications, raising concerns among stakeholders in the education sector. The move has sparked fears of creating an elite class of students, predominantly from wealthier backgrounds, thereby diminishing the diversity and inclusiveness of Australia's educational landscape.
