An Empirical Overview of Eight Flagship Universities in Africa

Bunting I, Cloete N., Schalkwyk v. F.,  ‘An Empirical Overview of Eight Flagship Universities in Africa: 2001-2011’, the Centre for Higher Education Transformation (CHET) 2014, ISBN: 978-1-920677-40-4 Pages: 46.

An Empirical Overview of Eight Flagship Universities in Africa 2001–2011 is the second publication in which the Centre for Higher Education Transformation’s Higher Education Research and Advocacy Network in Africa (HERANA) project reports on the collecting and analysis of crossnational higher education data for a group of eight ‘flagship’ universities in Africa.

These eight universities are described as flagship universities because each is the most prominent public university in its country, and because all of the universities have broad flagship goals built into their vision and mission statements.

The report consists primarily of descriptive analyses of the student enrolments, academic staff profiles and knowledge outputs of the eight universities. It concludes with an analysis of performance which focuses on the links between high-level academic staffing resources and high-level knowledge outputs. CHET – Full report SHARE
