In the spring of 2020, ACA quickly responded to the emerging global pandemic by publishing The World After COVID-19: ACA Think Pieces, a periodical series of reflections from European thought leaders in higher education internationalisation about the impact of the pandemic on our field. The articles were warmly received by colleagues across Europe. Following this excellent feedback on this series, ACA has two things in store for 2021 – an additional Think Piece on the impact of Covid-19 on international higher education, given the continued significance of this topic for our work. This Piece, authored by ACA President Ulrich Grothus, will be released in mid-March 2021. It will pave the way for a new ACA Think Pieces series on Inclusion in International Higher Education: European Perspectives & Insights, which will be launched at the end of March 2021, and run for the remaining part of the year, with one release per month.
In alignment with the growing focus on inclusivity at policy level in Europe and within Erasmus+ framework documents emerging from the European Commission, this new inclusion-focused series will consist of monthly reflections from European experts in the field of higher education internationalisation and inclusion. The series as a whole will support a broadening of our understanding and focus on inclusion in international higher education, within, but also well beyond inclusive mobility.
Each contribution will explore the multi-faceted nature of inclusion from a different international education perspective, including, for example: concrete advice regarding developing strategic inclusion plans for inclusive higher education mobility, how to measure progress on inclusion-related goals, practical examples of data collection to enhance diversity, synergies of excellent inclusion practices from the Erasmus+ youth sector relevant for higher education, etc.
The series will be officially launched on ACA’s website in late March 2021 with an introductory article co-authored by ACA’s Senior Policy & Project Officer with responsibility for inclusion, John Delap and ACA’s Director, Irina Ferencz.
