ACA welcomes new president – Ulrich Grothus

Ulrich Grothus was elected the new ACA President at the recent meeting of the association’s General Assembly of 20 June. His term of office will begin at the beginning of January 2018, when the second term of office of Sijbolt Noorda, the current ACA President, comes to an end.

Ulrich Grothus, who was born in Hagen (Germany) in 1952, has spent most of his career in Germany’s DAAD. However, after studying political science and German language and literature at the Free University of Berlin, he first worked as a journalist for six years. In 1982, he joined the West German rectors’ conference (Westdeutsche Rektorenkonferenz, WRK), before moving to DAAD as the chief of the President’s Office. After having headed almost all DAAD divisions and the organisation’s branch offices in New York and Paris, he is today the Deputy Secretary General of DAAD. He is based mainly in Berlin, but also in Bonn. Ulrich Grothus has also been an ACA Vice-President and Administrator.

ACA's new president speaks German, English, French, Italian, Spanish and Dutch. He is a globetrotter and loves literature and music. ACA looks forward to work under the leadership of this true internationalist and world citizen.
