The European University Association has created the first organisation to develop and promote doctoral education and research training across Europe: the EUA Council for Doctoral Education (EUA-CDE). Its mission is to contribute to the development, advancement and improvement of doctoral education and research training in Europe.

Doctoral education is vital to Europe’s research capacity and international competitiveness. The Council for Doctoral Education thus strives to enhance the quality of doctoral education, to strengthen its international dimension and to promote the doctorate and doctorate holders as careers upon which to build a knowledge-based.

Membership of EUA-CDE is open to all full members of EUA as well as to universities awarding doctoral degrees that are not EUA members.
