A change of leadership at Universidad.es

Universidad.es, the Public Foundation for the International Promotion of Spanish Universities, has said goodbye to its founding director, Mònica Margarit, and welcomes a new chief executive, José Manuel Martínez Sierra, effective 1 February 2011. Ms. Margarit recently resigned from the top position at Universidad.es to take up a new role as director of the Prince of Girona Foundation in Spain. She began her tenure as director of Universidad.es in February 2009 and played a transformative role in launching this new organisation over the course of the last two years. Under Ms. Margarit’s leadership, Universidad.es joined ACA almost immediately, and even served as co-sponsor of the ACA Annual Conference in Córdoba in May 2010 during its first year of ACA membership.

Mr. Martínez is a lawyer by training, and serves as a member of the Jean Monnet Chair of European Constitutional Law at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, where he is also a tenured professor of constitutional law. He served for several years as consultant for the Minister of Education, Social Policy, and Sport, and later for the current Minister of Education. In this Ministry he assumed the role of General Director of International Relations, presiding over the European Union High-level Group of Educational Policies and the Campus of International Excellence’s International Commission. He has coordinated the University Internationalisation Management Plan, served as member of the Board of Directors of the Cervantes Institute, and as a trustee of the Universidad.es Foundation.

We wish Ms. Margarit all of the best in her new position and warmly congratulate Mr. Martínez on his new appointment.
