The Swiss Federal Council discussed the status of negotiations to strengthen the EU-Switzerland bilateral relationship at its meeting on November 6, 2024. Negotiations are well advanced on most dossiers within this broader package, including the track on European programmes (association to Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe). In this context, the Federal Council made a principled decision regarding Switzerland's association with Erasmus+: it aims for association by 2027 and will submit the corresponding funding decision to Parliament as part of the overall package. In parallel, national implementation needs to be planned. Education sector stakeholders are urged to make the necessary preparations, and the National Agency Movetia will take the required steps to be fully accredited as a Erasmus+ National Agency.  

As for the Swiss participation in Horizon Europe, unrestricted participation should be possible as soon as the overall negotiation results are confirmed by both parties.
