ACA Think Pieces: European higher education cooperation in a global context
Following the successful run of ACA’s “Think Pieces” series in 2020 on the world after Covid-19, in 2021 on inclusion in the context of higher education and in 2022 on digitalisation in the higher education sector, ACA continues with a new edition in 2023, focusing on the European higher education cooperation in a global context.
The fourth piece, authored by Hilligje van’t Land, Secretary General, and Giorgio Marinoni, Manager of Higher Education and Internationalisation, International Association of Universities (IAU), offers conceptual perspectives on the importance of values in cooperation. The authors remind readers of the role of the university, autonomy, academic freedom, and the relationship with university, society, and the government. The piece then explores how these fundamental aspects are pressured by geopolitical challenges. Intercultural learning and understanding for international cooperation can be used as tools to develop peace and conflict prevention, and help foster a global mind set for students.
We hope you enjoy reading this thought-provoking piece!
