The new Croatian Law on Higher Education and Scientific Activity has entered into force on 22 October 2022. The new law intends to improve the legal and financial framework of the system of higher education. To this aim, it regulates the principles of management and financing of the higher education and scientific research sector in a flexible manner leaving as much space as possible for the autonomous operation of scientific and higher education institutions.

Mechanisms for harmonising study programmes and enrolment quotas with the needs of the labour market are being introduced, and the new legislation makes it possible to enrol in a joint study accredited by an international accreditation agency at the level of the European Union.

The new law is primarily aimed at improving the structure of the management and financing system in the field of higher education and scientific activity to enable the scientific research and higher education sector to become more efficient, more functional in relation to the needs of society and the economy, and especially more competitive in the European context.

One the most important novelties of the law is the possibility to receive diplomas also in a digital form.

Erasmus+ Annual Conference for Higher Education in Croatia

The Erasmus+ Annual Conference on Higher Education will take place onsite on 6 and 7 December 2022 as a two-day event with the participation of representatives of the European Executive Agency for Education and Culture (EACEA), the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Croatia, and the Erasmus Student Network. It will also feature the inclusion ambassadors, and various national and international presentations of good practice examples.

The conference will bring together around 250 participants active in the field of higher education: decision-makers, members of the HEI management boards, international relation officers and staff in charge of recognition issues at HEIs as well as experienced project coordinators.

On the first day of the conference, the focus will be on the recognition issues where the panel discussion will bring together perspectives of the Croatian Ministry of Science and Education, Agency for Science and Higher Education and both national and international HEIs.

The second day of the conference will be dedicated to the new Erasmus+ 2023 Call where practical workshops will be provided for applicants, followed by the Erasmus Student Network’s presentation about their contribution to the evaluation of the Erasmus+ programme.

With this conference, and beyond, The Agency for Mobility and EU Programmes (AMEUP) will continue to be a support and partner of Croatian higher education institutions in achieving project goals and further internationalisation.
