DAAD. (2021). Die Bedeutung von Auslandserfahrung für den Karriereerfolg von Hochschulabsolventen auf dem deutschen Arbeitsmarkt. DAAD. Bonn, Germany.
Exchange semesters, research stays, and internships abroad make it easier for university graduates to enter and advance in the German labour market. This is the result of a study by the Institute of the German Economy (IW), commissioned by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). For this study, 1.100 German companies were surveyed, and individual interviews were conducted with human resource managers. Graduates with experience abroad are said to have a higher degree of communication skills, independence, willingness to change and intercultural competence. These skills are particularly in demand for management positions, the study confirms.
