This book focuses on the phenomenon of international student exchanges in Europe and empirically addresses four main research questions: 1) who goes abroad, 2) how students reconstruct their social network abroad, 3) whether intra-European student mobility leads to an increased sense of European identity, and 4) whether participating in a European exchange programme influences future migratory behaviour. With international comparative approach, the research combines quantitative and qualitative data, focusing on the cases of Austria, Belgium, Italy, Norway, Poland and the United Kingdom. The empirical data was collected through a large-scale online survey, and in-depth interviews and focus groups with tertiary students.
