This is a collection of 12 essays that deal with the divide – often fictional - between theory and practice, and the roles of theory in educational research and practice. The authors take different perspectives to discuss the topic, focusing in particular on the interplay between theory in education and education in theory and theorising, and challenging the deeply rooted dichotomies: theory versus practice, theoretical versus empirical, and alike.
The book is divided into three sections, starting from historical conceptions of theories of education studies and moving to the practice of understanding and theorising education and then focusing on redefining and creating new agendas for educational theory. Each section contains three to five chapters on the proposed subject. This is a useful material to researchers, academics and postgraduate students.
