A historical event of great importance for Higher Education took place in Argentina earlier this month. The G20 Education Ministerial Meeting chaired by Alejandro Finocchiaro, the Minister of Education in Argentina, discussed the future of education systems. The Director General of Education, Youth, Sport and Culture of the European Union, the US secretary of Education, and the Director-General of Unesco, were among the 30 delegation leaders that attended this event. 

Finocchiaro opened the meeting by acknowledging the importance of education, without which [H]uman skills cannot develop. People cannot develop. And without development, it will not be possible to achieve sustainable development around the world.”

Aside from discussing future opportunities among which are globalisation and digitalisation, there was a signed agreement between Argentina and UK regarding the mutual recognition of master degrees. This document will permit students who hold a master degree from an Argentinian University to access PhD programs in the UK and Northern Ireland and vice versa. Moreover, the PhD degrees of both countries will be academically equivalent. This is great news for both Argentinian and UK graduates. The South American country is a rare blend of cultures of Latin American and European heritage. The UK on the other hand is praised for having one of the best educational systems in the world, according to the latest edition of QS World University rankings. This will enable Argentinian graduates to continue their academic careers in some of the most prestigious universities in the world.
