The German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) published new figures on "German students abroad".
The total number of German students abroad stands at 137.700 in the year 2015. This is a minimal rise of 700 students (0,5%) as compared to the previous year 2014. The share of German students abroad in relation to the total number of German students decreased from 5,8% to 5,7% due to a high increase in the number of students at home.
The four most popular destination countries continue to be Austria, the Netherlands, Great Britain and Switzerland. Whereas the Netherlands and Switzerland record a slightly shrinking popularity, a slightly growing popularity can be noted for Austria and Great Britain.
