The tenth annual Times Higher Education Awards, held in association with Santander Universities, announced the winners of this year on 27 November in London. The prestigious accolade in the British Higher Education sector has seen hundreds of nominations submitted by outstanding institutions, departments and individuals across 18 categories covering the full range of university activity.
2014 University of the Year has been named Edge Hill University, the first non-denominational teacher training college for women opened in Liverpool in 1885 that now has 26,000 students on a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
Most of the prizes for the other categories were awarded to universities from the Russell Group and the University Alliance. Particularly outstanding were the University of Sheffield (gaining the titles of best Widening participation or outreach initiative, best Outstanding support for early career researcher and best Outstanding international student strategy) and the University of Salford (awarded for best Outstanding contribution to innovation and technology and best Business School of the Year).
