France and New Zealand: Cooperation agreement on higher education

Universities New Zealand – Te Pokai Tara and the French Conférence des Présidents d’Université (CPU) concluded a cooperation agreement on higher education matters. Signed by the Chair of Universities New Zealand Roy Crawford and Head of the French University of New Caledonia Gaël  Lagadec, the agreement foresees further cooperation in a variety of fields, such as:

  • student credit-mobility;
  • research mobility;
  • teaching staff mobility;
  • co-research projects; and
  • participation in colloquia.
One of the biggest achievements is the reciprocal recognition of university degrees between the two countries. Although the cooperation agreement is an important new step in deepening ties between New Zealand and France in higher education and research since the last cultural agreement signed in the 1970s, it only constitutes a broad framework, as a financial framework for the proper implementation of the foreseen measures has not been decided yet.
