Inclusive Mobility Alliance – 17 recommendations for inclusive mobility in Erasmus 2021-2027

The Inclusive Mobility Alliance (IMA) launched on 22 January 2019, in the European Parliament (EP), a paper with 17 recommendations on making the Erasmus programme 2021-2027 more inclusive. The meeting, chaired by the Erasmus Student Network (ESN), was hosted by MEPs Damiano Zoffoli and Luigi Morgano.

The alliance was launched in September 2018 and brings together 21 organisations with expertise in youth mobility, higher education mobility and disability, that have discussed over the past months what it means and how to organise inclusive mobility, described as “creating and ensuring adequate conditions to learn, work or volunteer abroad for people with fewer opportunities, by addressing their diverse support needs. It is a needs-based approach to what the individual beneficiary needs to ensure a safe and exciting mobility period abroad”.

The paper puts forward 3 recommendations for all stakeholders active at various levels, touching on the needs to: further train and build capacity of staff, improve outreach and diverse communication (via co-design and co-delivery), and develop an accessible centralised platform for inclusive mobility. The paper then lists 3 other sets of recommendations, specifically targeting: European-level institutions (especially EU), national-level agencies and governments, as well as host and sending organisations and beneficiaries.
