Prague seems to be the perfect venue to launch declarations on the Bologna Process these days. Or at least that is what two members of the Bologna E4 group – ESU and EUA - seem to prove. In February, at the ESU conference organised in the beautiful Czech capital, more than 100 representatives from 49 student unions across Europe issued a declaration analysing the progress made on Bologna during the past ten years. The statement also draws some directions for change in the next decade for Bologna to reach its ultimate goal – the creation of a European HE area.

At its Prague Convention (18-21 March), EUA invited the participants to contribute to identifying “10 theses” for the future of European higher education and research for 2020. Based on this input, the EUA Council will meet on 3 April to adopt EUA’s Prague Declaration – universities’ view on how Europe should advance with the Bologna reforms.

Both organisations are trying to influence the priorities for Bologna after 2010, as their declarations and recommendations should feed into the Bologna Communiqué that is to be adopted at the upcoming Bologna Ministerial Meeting on 28-29 April 2009 in Leuven/Louvain-la-Neuve.
