The next steps in the Bologna Process

Already in March, the Bologna Follow-up Group (BFUG) met in Brdo, Slovenia and took important decisions.

The present phase of the Bologna Process will come to a conclusion in the form of a final ministerial conference to be held in Budapest and Vienna from 10 to 12 March 2010, hosted by the governments of Hungary and Austria. The further course of the process beyond the year 2010 will be the subject of a report of the BFUG to Europe’s ministers of education, which the BFUG will prepare and discuss during in a special session in Sarajevo on 24 and 25 June 2008.

The next ‘stocktaking report’ on the progress of Bologna signatory countries in the implementation of the reform is to be based on only 10 quantitative indicators, instead of the 12 applied in the last (2007) exercise of this sort. In addition to the quantitative indicators, the report is to concentrate on qualitative issues. As decided at the last ministerial meeting (London 2007), there will also be an independent external evaluation of the Bologna Process. The European Commission has now offered to finance the study and is preparing a call for tenders in collaboration with the BFUG
